Why Boudoir Is Not Just for Women

A nude man with a beard lays next to a log during a boudoir session

Boudoir photography has long been wrapped in lace and lingerie, presented as something delicate and feminine—something “for women.” And while women absolutely deserve to be celebrated in front of the lens, that traditional framing leaves out a lot of people.

At Bull City Boudoir, we believe boudoir is for everyone—not just women. Because authenticity, self-love, and body celebration are not gendered experiences. They are human ones.

Whether you’re a man, nonbinary, trans, genderfluid, agender, or simply don’t fit neatly into a box, you are welcome here. And more than that—you are seen, affirmed, and celebrated.

Let’s talk about how we approach gender-inclusive boudoir through the lens of body positivity, radical inclusion, and honest self-expression.

Redefining Boudoir for All Genders

Boudoir doesn’t have to look like satin sheets and sultry eyes. It doesn’t have to involve lace bras or soft makeup (unless that’s your thing!). At its core, boudoir is about owning your body, your identity, and your power, however that looks for you.

So what does boudoir look like for people who aren’t women?

  • For some, it looks like celebrating trans joy and gender euphoria
  • For others, it looks like reclaiming masculinity or softness on their own terms
  • For many, it’s about taking up space unapologetically in a body that’s been policed, erased, or misunderstood

We don’t offer a “masculine” or “feminine” boudoir package. We offer your boudoir experience. Designed around you, not a gender stereotype.

The Experience: Centered on You, Not Expectations

At Bull City Boudoir, we know that stepping in front of the camera is an act of vulnerability—especially when the world tells you that people like you don’t belong there.

That’s why our sessions are built around safety, trust, and consent. You can explore our full approach on our Experience page, but here’s what you can always expect:

  • A free, no-pressure consultation to talk about your goals, identity, and comfort level
  • Flexible session locations: in-home, outdoors, or curated safe spaces—no studio pressure
  • Creative direction that affirms your body and your story
  • Check-ins and consent conversations before and during the shoot
  • No gendered posing rules, no expectations of how you should look or move
  • No body retouching to shrink, smooth, or “fix” anything about you

We don’t make you fit into a mold—we build the shoot around your truth.

Inclusive Means Everyone Is Welcome

We serve:

  • Transmasculine and transfeminine clients
  • Nonbinary, genderqueer, and agender folks
  • Gay, bi, queer, ace, and pan individuals
  • Men who want to explore softness, sensuality, or strength
  • People of all body sizes, shapes, skin tones, and abilities

You don’t need to identify with a particular aesthetic or style. You just need to show up as you—and we’ll take care of the rest.

But What If I Don’t Know How to Pose?

This is a common question across all genders, and here’s the truth: you don’t have to know anything.

Our sessions are fully guided, which means we’ll support you through natural movements, suggest prompts, and adjust things along the way. We work collaboratively, never pushing you to do anything that feels inauthentic.

Some folks come in with a playlist and a whole vibe in mind. Others arrive nervous and unsure of what to expect. Either way, we’ve got you.

Our job is to reflect back what you may not always see in yourself: power, softness, resilience, sensuality, pride, vulnerability. Whatever is true for you.

Why Representation Matters Behind—and In Front of—the Camera

So many people avoid booking a boudoir session simply because they haven’t seen someone like themselves in the promotional photos.

We hear you. That’s why we’re actively working to showcase a broader spectrum of bodies, genders, and stories—with full consent, of course.

Because visibility isn’t a trend. It’s a commitment. When you see someone who shares your identity taking up space in front of the camera with confidence, it opens a door. One that says, “You belong here too.”

A Few Myths We’d Like to Bust:

“Boudoir is only sexy if you’re femme.”
Nope. Strength is sexy. Stillness is sexy. Joy is sexy. Gender expression has nothing to do with your worthiness in front of the camera.

“It’s weird for men to do boudoir.”
Only if we let toxic masculinity define what’s “normal.” We’ve photographed men who wanted to feel powerful, tender, edgy, artistic, or simply seen. Repeat after us: boudoir is not just for women.

“I’m nonbinary—there’s no way this will feel right for me.”
That’s exactly why we do this work. You don’t have to pick a side of the binary. We meet you in the middle—or completely outside of it.
